GEMS Summer Service Learning Trips for Student Employability

Join us in Nepal or Kenya for this once-in-a-lifetime experience for students at GEMS schools!

Projects Abroad is proud to be partnering with GEMS to provide exciting opportunities to students in the summer of 2024. Students ages 16-18 can join us on two incredible chaperoned programs.

Option 1: Giraffe and Lion Conservation in Kenya

A Norwegian Projects Abroad volunteer looks at a Rothschild giraffe at the Soysambu conservancy in Nakuru, Kenya during his Conservation Volunteering Program

Dates: 7th – 13th July 2024

Project fee: $ 2,345

This program offers students the chance to live and work within the Soysambu Conservancy in Nakuru. During their time here, they will learn from expert conservationists and contribute to vital research and work around the conservancy. When not working, students will meet local people, including the Maasai people, and learn about a different way of life.

Here are just some of the tasks students can expect to do during their placement: 

  • Research endangered species, such as the Rothschild giraffe
  • Set up camera traps and study animal behavior
  • Remove invasive plant species

Option 2: Community Development in Nepal

Dates: 7th – 13th July 2024

Project fee: $1,885

In this program, students will be working with disadvantaged schools and care centers in Nepal. They will focus on promoting early childhood development and building key skills that will set the children up for more life and career opportunities in the future. Nepal offers breathtaking views and a welcoming community. Students will explore the colorful, ancient city of Kathmandu during their stay!

During their trip, students will: 

  • Gain practical childcare experience whilst exploring a different country
  • Help children with early childhood development by teaching through play
  • Take part in community work with building projects

Flights

Should you prefer to depart from a different airport, you have the flexibility to do so.

Our team will arrange for your transportation to and from the airport at your destination to join up with the rest of the group. However, we recommend aligning your flight schedule with the chaperoned flights mentioned below to provide you with full chaperoned service with a Projects Abroad staff member.


Kenya Flights

Flying with Emirates, we advise the following flights to and from Kenya:

 

To Kenya:

Depart DXB Airport at 10:15 am - Arrive at NBO Airport at 14:15 pm (Direct Flight)

This journey will take 5 hours.

Leaving Kenya:

Depart NBO Airport at 16:35 pm - Arrive at DXB Airport at 22:40 pm (Direct Flight)

This journey will take 5 hours, 05 minutes.


Nepal Flights

Flying with Fly Dubai, we advise the following flights to and from Nepal:

 

To Nepal:

Depart DXB Airport at 02:55 am - Arrive at KTM Airport at 09:00 am (Direct Flight)

This journey will take 4 hours, 20 minutes.

Leaving Nepal:

Depart KTM Airport at 10:00 am - Arrive at DXB Airport at 13:10 pm (Direct Flight)

This journey will take 4 hours, 55 minutes.

Travel Arrangements

While the cost of the trip doesn’t cover flights or visas, our specialists will be on hand to advise you and walk you through the process. We’ll send through information on applying for a visa (where required) and help complete any paperwork.

Flights

Students will be accompanied by a Projects Abroad staff member on their flight. After the application deadline, once all applications have been received, Projects Abroad will be in touch to help make all of the necessary arrangements and book flights.

Fully Chaperoned

Projects Abroad staff are there for students 24 hours a day to support and guide students during the week and over weekends to provide constant support and guidance. They’ll make sure students feel comfortable and safe during their flights, and at their placement and accommodation. If students encounter any problems, our staff will be available!
